Sunday Swatches: Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario Review

Sunday 29 January 2017

So this week's Sunday Swatch post is featuring the Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario, which I don't actually own but a friend of mine let me take pictures of and swatch..

The palette wasn't available to buy directly in the UK through Cult Beauty like the Modern Renaissance palette was (review here) and the Huda Rose Gold palette was released around the same time as this Mario one I think, because I distinctly remember being too broke to afford this when the opportunity arose.. *sigh*.
Read on to see what I think and for swatches and the full review.
Packaging: It's a pretty simple and bog standard packaging in classic colours black and gold..
It holds 12 eyeshadows as opposed to the 14 in the ABH Modern Renaissance palette but the shadow pans are the newer and bigger Modern Renaissance size.
It has a double sided brush included (one side I thought was used from eyeshadow use by my friend, but it turned out to be clean and just a brown stained brush lol).

Colour & Pigmentation: The palette has only 3 true matte shadows which I wasn't too sure about and the rest were soft shimmer shadows.
I actually love 90% of the colours in this palette, but my favourites for pigmentation were Violeta, Isabel and Muse.
Least favourites were Claudia (seems too cool toned) and Hollywood (not as pigmented as the rest of the shadows).

Again, as with the Modern Renaissance palette, it's a highly pigmented powdery textured palette but it did feel slightly more buttery.

Price: £55-60.
I'm not sure how much my mate's sister got this palette for from America, but when I was offered the chance to get it from a friend who visited Dubai, it was around £60 which at the time I was too broke to pay.

As a makeup artist who usually gets up to 30-40% off brands, I'll be honest even the Huda palette hurt to buy full price, so I wasn't overly fussed about buying this one so soon, especially as there were less shadows than the Huda palette and of course similar colours to many other neutral palettes I already have.
If I could get this palette around the £40 mark, would I get it? Yes. It is a beautiful palette and one I could see myself using in my kit quite frequently as most people these days want neutral eyes.
Overall rating: Price aside, I'd definitely give this palette a top rating of 4.5 (would have liked at least two more matte shadows), but all in all, its beautifully pigmented and wearable:

Do you have this palette? What are your thoughts?

  1. That is way way way too expensive for a palette like that. That hurts a lot actually because I am sure I have picked up palettes like the Tamanna one from Anastasia for like £25. The mark up is ridiculous but I feel it would've been cheaper buying from Cult should they have stocked it, as Modern Renaissance isn't even that expensive. £60!?!!
