Sunday Swatches: Foundation Files - Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk

Sunday 20 November 2016

For my third post in this series of Foundation Files posts, I've chosen to review the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation as I've long heard amazing things about it. This is a requested post by my Twitter poll too, so hope you guys enjoy!

The shade range is pretty great (a good 24 shades in total!) but also hella confusing as it doesn't seem to be in number order.

I'll be swatching three of the shades (6, 6.5 and 7) on my face as they are the closest to my skintone, however I do have shades 8 and 8.5 that I have swatched below for comparison too, so read on to see what I think of the foundations and who I'd recommend it for.

Packaging: The packaging is in a nice frosted glass bottle which can be slightly tricky to tell the true colour, but definitely a luxe looking product of course with the Armani logo on the black lid. It has a pump dispenser too which is always a win.

Shades:
"6": described as "Medium Warm" is the yellowest/warmest shade (great for NC30 complexions I'd say)

"6.5": also describes as "Medium Warm" however I found it to have both warm and neutral undertones (good for NW or NC30-35ish complexion)

"7": "Medium Neutral" the most pinkest of the three, with definite neutral undertones (good for NW33ish)

"8": "Tan Neutral" looks like it has a slight warmth to it but mostly neutral/pink tones, (good for NW35-40).

"8.5": "Deep Warm" definitely warm/orange tones to this foundation shade (good for NC45ish)

From the swatches above, you can see 6 is definitely the yellowest out of them all and I feel like it matches my skintone the best.
My undertones are mostly yellow but have pinkness around my nose which can make it look like I have some neutral undertones but I am in fact yellower.
I could get away with wearing 6.5, however, I do feel like the neutral tones in the foundation make me look greyer in real life.
Shade 7 is a definite pinker toned foundation which shows up a lot for me in real life as the undertones do not match my own.

When it came to shade 8 and 8.5, there was a huge jump from tan neutral  to deep warm (as you can see in the swatched arm picture above), so that left me a bit confused as I am with the Make Up Forever foundations which are also not in shade number order.

Coverage: This is a light to medium coverage foundation. I find that it is buildable but certainly not full enough coverage for those who need that really high coverage look, as it's quite sheer in texture.

Finish: After it has been blended into the skin and allowed to settle, dewy finish. I'd say this foundation is best for drier/maturer skin although it's supposed to be for all skin types. Feels like nothing at all is on, which I of course love and seems to blur imperfections too. Does not contain SPF.

TextureQuite a runny velvety texture but buffs seamlessly and gives even skintone despite being quite sheer in texture too; hides my freckles and beauty spots adequately.

Longevity: Surprisingly, for a "luminous" finish foundation, it lasts fairly long; when I've worn it during the day in winter, as long as I don't rub my nose with tissue, the foundation will stay for the day without much separation even on my oily areas.

Price: At £37 it's the priciest foundation yet; however, the price tag is definitely worth it for me as I feel like it's just my skin and the shade 6 literally feels like it's a second (seamless) skin in real life.
I'd definitely recommend popping into your local John Lewis or House of Fraser to get a shade match as there are so many!

Overall rating: I absolutely love this foundation; the feel, the finish, the shade match and even the packaging, so
I give it a 5!!
