Sunday Swatches: Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks - Holiday Sets

Sunday, 11 December 2016

This Sunday Swatches (and review) post is of yet another liquid lipstick mini set, but this time two from the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks range, which I've been meaning to try for ages now, but held off knowing there would be sets like these around Christmas.
This is the fourth video in my latest lip swatches series and you can see the rest in the playlist I created on my YouTube channel here.

These swatch type videos seem to be most popular on my channel, so I decided to film these swatches too (as tedious as it can be!) so you can see more of their true colours in various angles and lighting and of course on darker lips like mine.

There are 7 liquid lipsticks swatched in this post + a Glitterati Lip Top Coat, so read on for more!
Stay All Day, Sparkle All Night set (minus "Transcend" top coat)
Naturally Nude set

Stila Stay All Day Lip Swatch Video:
Again as before in my previous lip posts, I mentioned that I've got a darker/pigmented top lip so I tend to buff a bit of concealer/foundation around the edges of my lips to give it an even base for the colour to show on.

Packaging: I've not owned a full size Stila liquid lipstick so I can't compare, but I did hold off getting Patina which I have had my eye on for a long while as I wanted the gold lid packaging and was only available in the black lid packaging when I looked earlier in the year.
The applicator is a standard doe foot wand, however, as with the Matt(e) Hughes minis, application can be messy as there's not a lot of suction to keep the product from over loading on the wand. You get a generous 1.5ml in these minis (half of the full size 3ml); currently the most generous minis out of the ones I've reviewed so far already.

Colour & Pigmentation:
The colours in the Naturally Nude set are a pretty good selection for someone like me who loves nudey rose pink/mauves. I've marked the shade descriptions below for this set with "NN set".

On occasions, I like to wear a bright lip, so the Stay All Day, Sparkle All Night set is perfect for someone who is brave enough to whip out a bright/dark lip.

Transcend - matte pinky glitter top coat
Baci - dusty grey mauve
Perla - pale dusty pink (NN set)
Fresco - dusky pink
Serenata - brown nude rose (NN set)
Patina - dusty rose (NN set)
Bacca - raspberry pink
Rubino - rouge red

My favourites shades were Fresco and Serenata and Patina, least favourite was Perla and Baci as they looked too light on my lips.

Pigmentation wise, they were all of good coverage but the shades "Bacca" and "Rubino" were slightly uneven and patchy as you can see in the arm swatches above.

Texture-wise, they were a lovely moussey consistency (which works better for my lip skin type) with enough slip to apply effortlessly and smooth.

Finish
These liquid lipsticks dry matte with an ever-so-slight stickiness. These also dry darker than when first applied.

Scent
These smell gorgeously sweet, kind of like cake batter or icing.

Longevity:
As the name suggests these lipsticks "Stay All Day"; on average when I've worn these, they can last up to 6 hours+ without budging (less when eating oily foods). The formula feels slightly drying and cracks after about 2 hours, but again, not in the same way the Kylie ones do and I found Patina to be less "cracky".

Price:
The price of the Naturally Nude set is £18 for three (here) which works out to around £6 per liquid lipstick (full size is £16, so you still effectively save £4 buying minis).

The price of the Stay All Day, Sparkle All Night set is £32 for six (here) which works out to around £5.33 each.

Overall rating
As always, I think the colour ranges are great in these mini sets if you wanted to try out the brand, but also in these particular Stila sets, the 1.5ml is a generous amount, considering the full size is only 3ml.

The shade range available is actually very wearable for darker lips like mine as they dry a fair bit darker than when first applied and most of the shades' textures were consistently creamy and comfortable.

They also last an amazingly long time (despite slight cracking) so I would give these a 4.5 out of 5 in total:

  1. Thanks for the swatches! Baci and perla look very similar in the pictures - would you say they are similar in person as well?

    1. No problem!
They do look very similar however I'd say Perla is a smidgen lighter and Baci has a slightttt browner undertone if that helps!
