FFF: Peachy-Pink Cotton Candy makeup look

Friday 27 January 2012

Another FFF (FOTD Frooti Fridays) post!
A while ago I asked for any colour combo requests and one of them was an orange-pink look (sorry, can't remember who by!).
I'd recently acquired the Kiko palette, so I used that palette for this look (swatches can be seen here again). I also received a request to do a "cotton candy" look, using pastels, so this would definitely fit the bill, but if not I can do more pastel looks if requested =)

Products used:
> UDPP & NYX JEP in Milk
> Kiko 01 Pure Colour Extravaganza palette - beige, green, orange, pink & purple
> La Femme pressed eyeshadow refill - white
> UD 24/7 eye pencil in Zero
> MAC penultimate eyeliner in Rapidblack
> Daniel Sandler Jumbo Jet Mascara (black)
> Graftobian warm HD creme foundation
> UD Brow Box in Brown Sugar & Sleek matte black shadow
> Kiko Warm Tangerine Glow blush palette
> UD 24/7 lip pencil in Wicked & Stardust in Andromeda

After priming the eye with both UDPP and then NYX JEP in Milk, I added the beige eyeshadow on the inner corners of the eyes, then orange (which has golden shimmer to it, so looks more peachy) both with a flat shadow brush. Pink shadow was lightly added to the crease with a fluffy brush, buffing back and forth and slightly upwards. A bit of the purple shadow was also added to the crease very lightly, so as not to change the colour of the pink. The La Femme white shadow was used on the brow bone, blended down slightly too.

Using UD 24/7 eye pencil in Zero I lined the inner eye (both top and bottom) then did the topliner with MAC Rapidblack penultimate line.
To finish off the eyes, I coated the lashes with Daniel Sandler Jumbo Jet Mascara, concealed under the eyes and filled in the brows with UD Brow Box.

For the rest of the face I used Kiko Tangerine Glow bronzer and filled the lips with UD 24/7 lip pencil in Wicked topped with UD Stardust in Andromeda:

So there you have it.. It's fairly simple, but a nice pastel-ly look which is a stark contrast to the last FOTD!
Hope you like it and if you have any more requests, please do let me know!

Urban Decay Spring Products - swatches & review

Tuesday 24 January 2012

[picture heavy post!]
After my last FOTD I had a lot of people asking me which colour I used on my lips (the nude-pink) which I had sneakily used for the look as I love it so much!
I thought I'd use that as an opportunity to blog about the upcoming Spring UD products that they so kindly sent me along with the Naked2 which is also being released in stores at the same time - 6th February 2012.

First up:
Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Colors (or SSLC as I call it!)

The colour I used on my lips for the last smokey look was Lovechild a pale pink (no glitter). I love these two new shades that UD have added to their range of SSLCs, the others were definitely for the more daring, the only less daring colour being F-Bomb (bright red) (see swatches here). Lovechild & Apocalypse however are much more wearable, both without glitter and Apocalypse being a deep berry colour.
The new colours will remain at £14 each along with the other shades available in the SSLC range.

Primer Potion Duo Set
I spotted these about two weeks ago in Debenhams Oxford Street and was glad that my two favourite (and most used) PPs were in a set together. As you may know, I use UDPP (original) for almost every makeup look.. and Sin I use on my lazy days when I can't be bothered to wear eyeshadow but want to look like I am. Both are amazing shades that suit a lot of (if not all) skin tones and as you must know by now, they really do work at making your eyeshadow pop and last, crease-free.
The SA said it was £22 which means that if you use both like me, then buying this set would save you £7 rather than buying them individually for £14.50 each.

24/7 Concealer Pencils
This new launch excited me a lot.. I'm a fan of the current concealer pencils as they give great coverage and apply lovely and smooth. My normal shade is NSA (the darkest shade) however when I came back from holiday last year I had to make do with my MAC NC30-35 as NSA was way too light for me. Thankfully, Urban Decay have finally extended their concealer shades to match their darker foundation shades. I always wondered why their concealers were always light whilst their foundations were great for ethnic/yellow/red toned skin!
The packaging has also been updated (no more light purple, but instead a gorgeous deep purple!)
The new shades include (in shade order): ATF (golden beige), DOD (warm tan), KGB (golden caramel) & MI6 (deepest cocoa).
The swatches of all the concealers sent to me are here; CIA (the lightest shade) was not sent, but it's a very pale ivory shade, almost white looking!
These concealers will still be £12 which is great as they are handy to carry around for touch ups and as a MUA I like that it's hygienic (no fingers dipped in pots.. can be sharpened!)

24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils
Urban Decay have again listened to their fans for this one; fans didn't like the packaging of the primers so they changed it. Then after releasing Perversion eyeliner in their 15 year anniversary set last year, fans everywhere (including me!) asked Urban Decay to release it by itself.. and they have, along with two other shades!
For those of you who don't know, the 24/7 eye pencils are one of UD's best sellers; long lasting, waterproof and smudge-proof smooth eye colours make it one of the best selling eyeliners and it actually works!
Swatches:
Perversion is a pure matte black (blacker than Zero) and seriously lasts long (longer than the others in my opinion!). My pencil up until now from the anniversary set has been used for special occasions/looks only, but now I can freely use it!
Demolition is another matte pencil - dark brown, darker than Bourbon for those wondering!
Woodstock is a bright fuschia pink shimmery pencil, but I don't see it suiting me as a topliner.. I will however try it with my pink glitter liner (Catfight) but I'm not usually a fan of pink on the eyes, so I don't see it selling that well!
I think UD could release a 24/7 eye pencil in a similar colour to their eyeshadow pencil Delinquent (a pure deep purple) which is a favourite of mine rather than the purples available in the liner range.
All pencils are priced at £13 and will continue to be when these new shades are released in less than 2 weeks.

Pocket Rocket Lip Glosses
These are UD's lipglosses that fit nicely in pockets without any bumps and pheromones in the ink. I've never been too keen on them myself coz the "creme brulee" scent and their somewhat sticky consistency.. and like their honey scented products you either love it or hate it and unfortunately I'm not a fan.
The colours however are amazing, so I tend to ignore the smell if I'm using them!
Two new shades have been added to the collection (£13 each); Rashad (light dusty rose) and Dustin (nude with sparkle and shimmer).
Swatches:
Lush Lash Mascara
Another mascara has been added to Urban Decay's mascara boutique, the Lush Lash mascara. Like the Lush Lash system, this mascara is supposed to enhance lashes by nourishing, thickening and lengthening lashes rather than damage them like normal mascaras. This mascara is also somewhat waterproof even though it's not labelled so.
The Lush Lash system was quite amazing as it did lengthen my lashes (and help grow my brows!) but as for thickening, it only did it after about 5 weeks of continuous use.
I found the Lush Lash mascara to be lengthening, but not so much thickening.
The brush looked amazing so I was expecting great things but unfortunately I wasn't too impressed.. I would like to see if the mascara does work on improving the condition of my lashes as everyday mascaras I use make my lashes feel weaker, but as it doesn't give me the thickening effect I want, I'll just stick to using the Lush Lash system.
The packaging is lovely though, purple so of course I'd love it!
The mascara is £15 like all the other mascaras available by Urban Decay.

So there you have it! All of these will be available by February 6th (less than two weeks!) so those of you who were loving that Lovechild SSLC, now you know when it's available!

My personal favourites were the SSLCs and the release of Perversion liner as a permanent pencil.

Urban Decay products are available to buy from Debenhams and House of Fraser stores or online at beautybay.com, hqhair.com and lookfantastic.com

Which of these from the Spring collection has excited you most? Will you be buying anything?

FOTD Frooti Friday; Smokey Naked2 makeup look

Friday 20 January 2012

I thought I'd start "FOTD Frooti Fridays" (or FFF for short) as I seem to post makeup looks on Fridays.. I can't guarantee every Friday, but I'll try my best when possible!
For those of you who wanted to see a look from the Naked2, I thought I'd do a fairly simple but classic look that a lot of people love. Personally, I'm not a fan of full on smokey looks on myself, but I do love how they look on other people with more fuller eyes/eyelids.
This look predominantly just uses one colour - blackout! But here's a list of the (all Urban) products used:

Products used:
> UD tinted moisturiser in Bodyguard
> UD concealer in NSA
> UDPP
> UD Naked2 palette - Foxy, Bootycall, Blackout
> UD 24/7 eye pencil in Perversion
> UD Cannonball mascara
> UD Brow Box in Brown Sugar & Blackout eyeshadow
> UD Baked Bronzer - Toasted
> UD Super Saturated Lip Color (SSLC) in Lovechild & F-Bomb

After applying tinted moisturiser all over the face and priming the eyes I started by lining the eyes with new UD eyepencil in Perversion around the eyes. I then gently patted Blackout with the included double ended brush in the palette, onto the eyelid. Unfortunately, I'd used the shadow brush already for a shimmery colour, so some of the shimmer had come off the brush when Blackout was applied! The effect was still nice, so I decided to leave it (rather than start again!)
Using the crease brush on the other end, I softly buffed on some more Blackout (but not too much as it needs to be "smoked" out.
Using Foxy on the brow bone, I blended it down using the crease brush again, adding more, as was needed. Unfortunately Foxy isn't as pigmented as I would have liked (like my La Femme white eyeshadow) but it did the job.
Using a liner brush, I added more Blackout to the bottom lashline, blending slightly to make the line softer.
I did use Perversion eye pencil for a topliner, but it's barely noticeable as they're both a very black black.
For the lashes I used the Cannonball mascara and wiggled back and forth to really give some depth amidst all the blackness!
Finally I concealed under the eye with NSA and filled in the brows with a little Blackout and the UD Brow Box.
For the rest of the face I used a bit of Toasted bronzer on the cheeks and the new SSLC in Lovechild on the lips:
I decided to contrast the dark matte black shadow with Bootycall (shimmery cork) for a slightly different look, to highlight the brows. So Bootycall was added on top of Foxy on the brow bone to look like this:
I also thought I'd try and make the look fully dramatic with red lips, using the SSLC in F-Bomb and the result was this!:
Which look do you prefer?? I hope you liked this look, it's quite dramatic so I wouldn't personally wear it.. even for occasions! But I thought I'd give it a go, do let me know your thoughts!

Naked2 Palette.. swatches and review!

Monday 9 January 2012

I thought I'd jump ahead of the blogging queue of swatches and reviews (in the UK that is) of the Naked2 Palette. As you may know, the UK got their first chance of getting their hands on the much awaited palette on Friday night via the Debenhams website selling for £36. The palette will be sold officially from today (Monday 8th) online and then in stores from the 6th February 2012.
So if you don't already know, the hype of this palette comes after the original Naked palette became the world's best selling palette (or there abouts!). It definitely has won a lot of awards and has become a makeup wardrobe staple for many.

Naturally, the sequel caused a bit of a commotion when it arrived at the UK too (an hour earlier than expected), with people claiming they were going to die if they didn't get it and so on.
Anyway, thanks to the lovely PR people at Urban Decay I managed to get my hands on the palette and some of the new Spring products that I'll be blogging about separately.
Many bloggers have said that this palette is a lot cooler than the original Naked palette and to some extent it's true but I find it's not as cool as I was led to expect. Here's a close up of the shades, to get a better view:

The palette comes with a generous sized mirror in the lid (filling the entire lid), a double ended Good Karma brush (with the crease brush on one end and shadow on the other) and instead of the usual primer sample, you get a lip junkie in the shade "Naked" (very coordinated!).
On to the swatches then:
And up close:

  • Foxy (cream bisque - matte finish)
  • Half Baked (golden-bronze- shimmery finish)
  • Booty Call (cork - shimmer)
  • Chopper (copper shimmer with silver micro glitter)
  • Tease (pale purple-brown - matte)
  • Snakebite (dark bronze shimmer with metallic base)
  • Suspect (pale golden beige - shimmer)
  • Pistol (light greyish brown - shimmer)
  • Verve (oyster - shimmery)
  • YDK (cool bronze shimmer with metallic base)
  • Busted (deep brown -shimmer)
  • Blackout (blackest black - matte)
As you can see the colours are slightly more silver-toned, but nevertheless browns/neutrals. My favourites from the original Naked palette were Half baked, Smog and Darkhorse. In this palette, Half baked is the only repeat which I still love and Snakebite is very similar to Smog (a warm chocolatey brown). Darkhorse can be recreated with Snakebite and Blackout mixed together though so all is fine if you have to choose between first or second Naked palette.
I would recommend Naked2 simply because there are more matte colours (which are harder to find in good quality) and also because the packaging and the brush is better too. Some of the colours are also very similar, like Bootycall (NP2) and Virgin (NP1) and Snakebite (NP2) and Smog (NP1).
As for the lip junkie, the colour is very wearable by many skintones, it's a pinky shimmery neutral:
So there you have it, the Naked2 palette in swatches; Urban Decay products are available to buy from Debenhams and House of Fraser stores or online at beautybay.com, hqhair.com and lookfantastic.com

What do you think of this palette? Will you be buying it if you haven't already? And which do you personally prefer?

Blue-Brown quick Friday FOTD makeup look

Saturday 7 January 2012

Last week I asked what colour combinations to do with my Kiko eyeshadow palette and I got a few suggestions which I managed to get down to doing!
The first one was a blue-brown arab style request, but I chose to do a simple style one, paired with nude lips for the full arab effect! You can view the Kiko Palette and swatches of the shadows here for reference =)

Products used:
> UDPP & NYX JEP in Milk
> Kiko 01 Pure Colour Extravaganza palette - blue, brown and beige-gold shadows
> UD 24/7 eye pencils in Zero & Bourbon
> MAC penultimate eyeliner in Rapidblack
> Daniel Sandler Jumbo Jet Mascara (black)
> Graftobian warm HD creme foundation
> UD Brow Box in Brown Sugar & Sleek matte black shadow
> Kiko Warm Tangerine Glow blush palette
> UD 24/7 lip pencil in Naked & Stardust in Andromeda

After priming the eye with both UDPP and then NYX JEP in Milk, I added the blue eyeshadow all over the eyelid with a flat shadow brush, followed by brown shadow in the crease with a fluffy brush, buffing back and forth and slightly upwards. The beige-gold shadow was used on the brow bone very lightly, blended down slightly too, but not heavily packed on.
Using UD 24/7 eye pencil in Zero I lined the inner eye (both top and bottom) then did the topliner with MAC Rapidblack penultimate liner and the bottom lashline/liner with UD 24/7 Bourbon liner.
To finish off the eyes, I coated the lashes with my newly acquired Daniel Sandler Jumbo Jet Mascara, concealed under the eyes and filled in the brows with UD Brow Box.

For the rest of the face I used Kiko tangerine glow bronzer and filled the lips with UD 24/7 lip pencil in Naked topped with UD Stardust in Andromeda:
Et voila! It's just a quick look, that I did, quite simple looking but hope you liked it!

On a side note, in case you're wondering why I've watermarked my pictures a bit more heavily, it's because of people using my pictures as avatars, profile pictures on twitter/facebook, so if you see any profiles with my face, please do email me (contact@frootibeauty.co.uk) to confirm that it's me! Thank you!
