Sunday Swatches: L'Oreal Infallible Sculpt Collection Review + Mario Dedivanovic Tips!

Sunday 31 January 2016

Hi guys!

Thanks to L'Oreal, I had the amazing opportunity to attend their "Sculpt School" on Friday with none other than Mario Dedivanovic.

If you don't know who he is, he's only the guy who brought to our attention the concept of "contouring" through Kim K (see pic below) and since then the craze has spun out of control (a quick scroll through IG makeup pages will give you an idea!)
I knew I had to attend the class as soon as I received the invite and was totally enthralled along with other bloggers/youtubers/press watching Mario work his magic on the model below.
Mario used the new L'Oreal Infallible Sculpt Range which aims to make "sculpting"/contouring easier for everyone and addresses sculpting every part of the face including base/complexion, eyes and eyebrows, cheeks and even lips (all products except the sculpting brush below).

Today's swatch post will feature the complexion products in this new range:

  • Infallible Sculpt Base Foundation
  • Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette

Infallible Sculpt Base Foundation
The Sculpt Base Foundation is intended to be used as the first makeup step of sculpting as it is blendable so that sculpting products can be seamlessly blended on top.
Unfortunately Light/Medium is way too light for me so I swatched Medium/Dark instead as reference on my NC30-35 skin:
Shade: Currently available in shades 01 Light/Medium and 03 Medium/Dark. Medium/Dark was slightly pink toned for my skin but I figured with contouring products it would be less noticable.
Coverage: I found the foundation to be very lightweight and fluid with just the right amount of coverage to even skintone.
Finish: Demi matte finish.. feels like nothing on!
Texture: Mario said the foundation is half the thickness of normal foundation, making it very blendable. I found it to be very light and fluid.
Longevity: up to 24 hours.
Price: £8.99 (currently on 3 for 2 at Superdrug!)

FrootiFactor: Aside from the shade tone not being yellow enough for me, I could totally see myself wearing this foundation everyday as it gives a light coverage that I prefer and feels like I'm not wearing anything.

I'd give it a 4.5:

Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette
Designed to be used on top of the Sculpt Base, a 2 in 1 contour palette with matte highlight and contour.
Shade: Also available in shades 01 Light/Medium and 03 Medium/Dark. I love the Light/Medium contour colour for my skintone, but the Medium/Dark highlight colour worked better for me as Light/Medium was too ashy.
Finish: Matte finish which is particularly awesome for a highlight shade.
Texture: Cream to powder - feels creamy but blends to powder finish which is longlasting.
Price: £9.99 here (Boots currently have 2 for £12 offer on L'Oreal, get yourself both!)

FrootiFactor: I've been playing around with the product since receiving it and on the whole I do like the product as it's long lasting, easy to use and feels lovely on the skin, whether using a brush or fingers. I love that the highlight shade is non shimmery, however I wouldn't recommend using the highlighting shade directly under the eyes as with usual "cream" contour products as the sheer/matte finish will not sit well particularly in lines.

I do love the way Mario used the product and how I've played with it since; you can achieve a "natural" looking shadow in the contours of the face and the non shimmery highlight shade also looks like skin.
I'd give it a 4.0:

All in all, I'm glad I learned another contouring technique from the master of "natural" contour himself and I like that these products are super lightweight to use and can last all day.
I managed to get a selfie with Mario who was super nice in person and humble :)

Lastly, here are some tips I learned from the Sculpt School with Mario:
  • Always start light and add more if needed
  • Blend Blend Blend!
  • Main areas of contouring: hollows of cheeks, hairline, jawline
  • Main areas of highlight: tops of cheeks, bridge of the nose, centre of the forehead, chin and cupids bow.
  • There should be no harsh lines - should look natural!
  • Blush - smile for apples of cheeks, use light strokes
  • Eyeliner tips: lean elbow on a surface for steady hand (when applying on yourself)
  • Eyeliner tips: draw dots on corners of eyes and middle of eyelid and join

The full L'Oreal Infallible Sculpt Collection will be available from February/March this year, the Contouring Palette is already available at Boots and Superdrug seem to stock most of the range already (and currently 3 for 2!).

What do you think of sculpting, have you mastered it yet?
